The White Rock Tritons are pleased to announce that Jake Elder will joining the winter training staff as guest coach starting next month.

Elder after graduating from the Delta Blue Jays went on to a successful career at  the University of Minnesota  before moving on  to a brief  pro career with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.  In addition to his duties as our Strength and Conditioning Coach Jake will now be sharing his knowledge and experience with our catchers.

The addition of Jake Elder to the training staff  will be a tremendous help in developing this years group of catchers.

Training schedule for the catchers will be posted next week.

JEFF ZEILSTRA TO HEAD WINTER PITCHING PROGRAM

The White Rock Tritons Baseball Club is very pleased to announce that Jeff Zeilstra will be joining the club as its new Pitching Coach effective November 1st. Jeff, a 98 alumnus playing for Alan Mauthe joins the club once again as the pitching coach, eager to help re-build a championship baseball program.

150th_sm_20100718_zeilstra_021Zeilstra began his coaching career in the PBL with the  Tritons in 2003 under Head Coach Don Archer before pursuing other opportunities to grow the game of baseball overseas.  After working as a Major League Baseball (MLB) Envoy coach in Europe in 2005 he took a job as the Head Coach of the men’s national team where he led the team to a 5th place finish at the Olympic Qualification tournament in Spain.

More recently, Jeff acted as the pitching coach for the DC Baseball Royals for two seasons while working full-time with VANOC (2010 Olympic Winter Games) as well as the pitching coach and advisor for the French national team. In between he’s also worked as an associate scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and has been involved in various development programs for amateur baseball both locally and internationally.

As a player, Jeff attended Treasure Valley C.C. He went on to graduate from U.B.C with honors with a Bachelors Degree in Human Kinetics.

Needless to say we are both pleased and very fortunate to have Jeff part of our program, as we continue to strengthen our coaching staff. Current Pitching Coach, Darcy Sidhoo will remain with the club in a supporting role as he is returning to school, attending Douglas College.

Information concerning the off season training programs has been posted on the player/parent pages. Further information concerning the details of the program will be posted as soon as they become finalized.

Tritons add to Coaching Staff

The White Rock Tritons Baseball Club is pleased to announce that Joe McAuley will be joining the club as an assistant to 16U Head Coach Mike Bird for the upcoming season.

A Port Coquitlam native, Joe played baseball for Poco Minor, Coquitlam Little League and Coquitlam Big League during the 90’s focusing mainly on pitching.  In 2000 he was part of the Midget AAA Provincial and Western Champion Tri City Indians.  Over the past number of years Joe  has coached both Bantam and Midget AAA baseball, highlighted as a assistant to coach Bird on the 2009 Bantam AAA Western Canada Champion, Tri City Indians. In addition, Coach McAuley has served  as an instructor for Fred Sabatine, the owner of  the Bullpen Baseball School.

With his addition to our coaching staff, rejoins 18U Head Coach Smithson as yet another former head coach of the Tri Cities Indians, after being appointed to that position just last year by Tri Cities owner, Kyle Williams.

ssap-004We are happy to report the City of Surrey has finally started work on the surfacing project for our infield and warning tracks.

The new playing surface  is scheduled to be ready for the start of our fall season.

Tritons Name New Head Coaches

SMITHSON BECOMES 8th HEAD COACH IN THE CLUB ‘S 18 YEAR HISTORYimg_4997

The White Rock Tritons Baseball Club is pleased to announce that current 16U Head Coach Russ Smithson will assume the duties and responsibilities of the 18U team effective July 20th 2010. However in the case  the Tritons 16U season will continue past this date,  Coach Smithson will then assume full duties  on the completion of the teams season.

Current Assistant Coaches Ladoucuer and Sidhoo will be remaining with the senior club in their current capacities.

We are also happy to announce that current 16U Assistant Mike Bird has accepted the Head Coaching position vacated by Coach Smithson. We are very pleased that we are able to fill  these key positions  from within our organization. Coach Bird will assume his responsibilities on the completion of the 16U season.

As we move through the transition process,  all inquiries concerning the senior club are asked to be directed to Mike Joy until further notice. Finally, further additions to the club’s coaching staff  will be announced as they are confirmed.

ii5gedof The 2010 MLB Player Draft continues Today with rounds 2-30 and finishes Wednesday with the remaining 20 rounds.

Congratulations to Langley’s Kellin Deglan on his first round selection. Deglan was selected 22nd overall by the Rangers. To follow the news….go here

Head Coach Brent Swanson has announced he will be resigning his position as Head Coach of the White Rock Tritons 18U club effective on the completion of the club’s 2010 schedule. img_4614

Coach Swanson has sited a required commitment to his new business venture and impending marriage next year as the reason he is unable to fully commit to the program for next year. Coach Swanson completes his fourth year as member of the club’s coaching staff, 3rd as the Head Coach.

We wish to take the opportunity to thank Coach Swanson for his contributions to the Tritons program over these past years. We wish him the very best with his future endeavours.

The announcement for Coach Swanson’s replacement will be made later in the week.

Point Loma advances to Semi versus Cumberland , L-C State Eliminated

2006 Grad Ian MacMaster and his Point Loma Sea Lions  move onto to face Cumberland (Tenn.) for the right to to move into the NAIA World Series finals, scheduled for Thursday. In Tuesday’s  action Point Loma beat Oklahoma City  8-5 ……for more go here!

The other side of the draw saw the top ranked  Lewis- Clarke State Warriors, owners of 16 World Series titles eliminated yesterday by No. 7 Embry-Riddle (Fla) 10-7. Embry-Riddle now moves on to face No. 4 Lee University(Tenn.) in the other semi-final game.

In others news from the JUCO World Series,  CSN defeated Iowa Western  as Bryce Harper went 3-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBIs to help the College of Southern Nevada to a 12-7 victory  in the third round of the Junior College World Series.

POW HONOURS FOR 2 JUNIORS

Two Jr. Tritons  receive BCJPBL Player of the Week Honours.

Congratulations go out to the first week of May’s  top RBI producer,  Evan Douglas for his 6 rbi in last weekend 4 games.  This week RHP Shaylen Buis was recognized for his 13K performance in his 7 innings of work this past week. Buis is the current league leader in strikeouts with 40.

We would also like to recognize another past POW honours for Josh Larsen who posted the best batting average for the opening week of the season going  4  for 6, BA .667, with a triple, 2 RBI and a .818 OBP. He was on base 9 out his first 11 plate appearances.

All players  receive a KR3 bat and t-shirt for their accomplishment that can be picked up at the Burnaby or Langley Prostock, official equipment supplier for the BCPBL.
