The White Rock Tritons Baseball Club is very pleased to announce the appointment of Russ Smithson as the Head Coach of the Tritons 16U Club in preparation of the upcoming 2010 season.
A Port Coquitlam native, Russ went on to play for the Fraser Valley Orioles as part of their Championship team winning the 2000 Big League World Series, one of the very few Canadian teams ever to win this title. Later Russ joined the Langley Blaze (Big League) during their infancy (in 2001) winning a National Big League title. While with the Blaze he enjoyed a successful season that then propelled him onto the Canadian Junior National Team as a starting infielder. He capped his summer with a scholarship to El Paso CC in Texas were he helped the Tejanos’ win back to back Conference Championships. Russ finished his distinguished college career off at the University of Kentucky in 2006. (more…)
The only PBL club to have a winning record against the Tritons this year has earned their way to the Final Four. In a heart breaking 3-2 loss to the Fraser Valley Chiefs, the White Rock Tritons 2009 season came to a screeching halt in the home half of the seventh inning last night at the SSAP. We wish Head Coach, Dennis Springenatic and his club good luck as they move on.
Despite the disappointing end to a long year, the club has proven themselves over the course of the season with a solid third place finish, having held first place for the first two months of the season. Improving on the 2008 record 0f 16-32 to finish 34 -14 a 18 game improvement, the best in the league this year proved a number of so called experts in this league wrong with their performance; suggesting that hard work and dedication can provide success, not simply reputation.
As we close out the year, we wish to acknowledge those who have contributed to the sucess of this program. For David Hadlow and Curtis Davis, although your association with the club has been short, your contributions have been meaningful none the less and have added greatly to the success we have experienced. For Burke Seifrit, the first out of province player to have played in the program, your presence has been simply outstanding. It is unfortunate we could only share this experience for just one year. For Kyle Enns, Blake Stewart, Paul Schellenberg and Charley Clark leave us knowing their contributions have made this program better as a result of their efforts.
Finally for Jake Bergsma, Antonio Paolini, Nick Senior, Bret Clark, Liam Dolphin, Nic Mitchell this marks the end of their 4 year stay with our program, for Mitchell, Dolphin and Clark their entire baseball careers have been played in White Rock. All have much to be proud of with the effort and dedication they have have made these past years. Your presence, dedication and contributions along with all the graduating players from the 2009 club will be greatly missed for a long time. We wish all the very best as they move into the next stage of their lives.
Lastly we wish to thank and one again acknowledge the sacrifices of the parents and families as you now too join our proud list of alumni. Any successes we have realized this year have been as a result of your contributions during your stay with us. On behalf of the entire coaching staff I wish to simply say good luck to you all and again, thank you.
